15. Silence
The air was thick, tense. No noise was heard. Nobody dared breathe. And then…
“Quack.”
All heads turned around at the abrupt sound, some even jumped at it. The culprit, a person from one of the back rows, grinned sheepishly. “Sorry, couldn’t help it.”
Some rolled eyes but most turned their heads back to one direction. All eyes stared intently at the same direction. Then…
“Five, four, three, two, one…” all chanted. The bell rang.
Immediately the room was filled with clamour; everyone screamed and clambered, rushing out, all cheering.
The room was filled with a new silence; empty silence.
